Pediatric Stroke. A subject I hold close to my heart. Did you know that children and even babies have strokes? Don't feel bad if you don't...I didn't either until my son became one of those babies. He was born in June 2007 and had his stroke during the delivery.
Babies often don't get diagnosed until they show signs of difficulty. In my sons case he started having seizures the day after he was born. He was airlifted to another hospital where they ran several tests and discovered he had a stroke. We were so scared. It's hard to type this actually, I'm getting a bit choked up. They told us he may never walk, may not follow directions, may have cerebral palsy, may have seizures for the rest of his life, may have more strokes! You can only imagine how scared we were for our little boy.
Thankfully he has suffered very little if any ill effects from it, he's one of the lucky ones. Many children are not so lucky and some even lose their lives. It's not something that people talk about and it's beyond time to change that.
