my first show

This all started about a week and a half ago when I got a phone call from a lovely lady named Pata. She owns Southern Exposure here in Eau Claire and also makes some lovely jewelry. Anyway, she needed someone to cover for her at a show and was kind enough to ask me to do it. My first reaction...oh my goodness, YES! My second reaction....holy crap what did I just do! I wasn't ready! I've never done a show before! After the initial shock set in I began to prepare. Pata was so kind to show me how she does her displays and even went as far as to loan me her tablecloths! I spent a lot of time preparing and only got 3 hrs of sleep the night before the show.

The drive to St. Croix Falls was a long one. What I thought would only take 1 hour ended up taking 2. So glad we left at 6:15am. When I arrived at the fairgrounds, at 8:30 only 1/2 hour late, the lady at the door told me they opened to the public at 8:30!!! Again...panic set it! I wasn't even checked in yet! My dear mother was there to help me carry my creations to the table and helped to set me up.

I think I rearranged the table about 50 times that day. What an experience. The other vendors around me were super nice and we talked and joked with each other the majority of the day. We had a few people stop through our building despite the rain and the freezing cold. Oh yeah, did I mention I dressed for spring weather! My poor toes were falling off by the time we left! Luckily I had brought a jacket with me.

Anyway, I sold a few little rings mostly to other vendors ha ha. They were being so kind. I gave a $5 discount to one vendor in exchange for a Strawberry & Banana Kabob, I was starving :)

Note to self....keep the jewels away from little fingers! I had my necklaces displayed flat on the table and one little girl wanted a gift for mommy so badly that she tried running off with it! I was there to catch her and her poor father was so embarrassed. Of course, she picked out the 14k gold necklace with the sparkly Citrine Geo...needless to say, they didn't buy it.

I am so happy that I went, so happy for the opportunity and am now searching for more shows to do. I can't wait to go through this again and again!

So for those of you still waiting....just jump in. It will be ok.

Thanks for listening to me babble on!
Happy Crafting.

  1. My first show was FAR from perfect... but it was a great experience. I was also freezing at my first show....... it was outside in the fall, and it was SO cold!

Shows will get better the more you do!
