just a glimpse

Many of you do not know that I once had a strong passion for poetry. It is my secret world that not many have entered. I am opening the door tonight...anyone who'd like to enter may do so. Here I lay myself...naked for you to see. It takes a lot to open this door so be gentle my lovelies...

HIS FACE
a poem by Vanessa Hotchkiss

The waves crashed upon her body with the force of an angry man
She laid there lifeless wondering what would happen if she were to drown
A sense of nothingness filled her and then she remembered...
His face
It was one of beauty
She could feel herself begin to turn away from the water and into the sand
Her arms and legs felt weighted and stiff
Was there any point to this struggle? Would it ever end?
She closed her eyes and tried hard to see him once more
His face
It was so kind
As the waves continued to crash upon her she wished to be near him
Wanted so badly to reach out and feel his warmth, protecting her
To hear his voice, comforting her
His face
It was so rugged
She opened her mouth to scream for him but instead inhaled the sea
Her eyes stared as if to get one last look
Her body lay lifeless
Her face
It was forever lost.

  1. I think this poem is really beautiful. I like the idea of wondering lifelessly. Its as if the woman felt drowned in the beginning of the poem and then actually drowned.

I think it is perfectly fine to share your heavy/dark stuff with your followers :) Life is not always happy and I think poetry is a great outlet for both good and hard times in life. Thanks for sharing :)
