handmade for the holidays

Home again, home again, jiggity jig!

I'm back from the Handmade from the Holiday's show in Oshkosh, WI and it was a huge success! Although the drive took me 4 hours and it was snowing on the way home, the trip was well worth it. I was able to snap a few photos of my booth and even scored some great products from neighboring vendors. I was located between Brooke from b.scrubbed and Man vs George some of the sweetest sellers I know. Thank you for making the experience so much fun!

Sure enough the set up took about an hour or so all together. The worst of it was carrying in the big wooded pieces so I may be reworking it for the December show. This was the first big show that I've done flying solo and I was super lucky to have friends like Sally from Night Owl Craft Works and Michelle from Dainty Daisies who were so helpful when I needed a bathroom break or something to eat! Seriously you ladies are the best!

The scarves sold really well! Funny, when you think something will sit and sit and then they are the first things to fly off the shelves! Seriously, I left with a stuffed suitcase full and came home with an almost empty one! Such a great feeling!

There were so many great customers that came to see me too. Such a heartwarming experience to know that people love what I do and were so excited to shop at my booth. Thank you to everyone who came out too see me!

Santa clause also made an appearance at the show and Laurie from Laurie Marie Photography was there taking photos, just in case you are wondering there is a photo or two of me with him somewhere on her camera! LOL. Thanks Laurie for making me laugh so hard the night before the show! XOXO

I didn't get a chance to shop at all the booths that I wanted too but I was able to get my hands on these goodies.

#1 Felt Hair Flowers for my daughter from DaintyDaisies
#2 Purple and Black Chalkboard Mug from Night Owl Craft Works
#3 Body Oil and Sugar Scrubs from b. scrubbed
#4 Moosestache Shirt for my Son from The Bare Tree

I also special ordered a print from Man vs George of two kissing deer which I will blog about when I get it in the mail! I can't wait!

If you didn't make it out this year I highly recommend you mark it on your calendar to attend next year. Thanks again to everyone who came out!

Now I'm off to start working on my first Style Gone Social Challenge! More news on that coming soon.

home show

Last night I did a home show so I thought I'd share a few photos of my set up. I did a test run with this display because I have two big shows coming  up and wanted to see how long the set up/take down would take. Guess what, I did it all in 1 hour! Let me tell you though, it wasn't easy to do all by myself and I'm rethinking a few of the heavy display pieces. But for now, here's my display!

Here are some examples of other pieces that I was showing and one of my Sister-in-Laws new tutu rings! I was able to get 3 custom orders on the handwarmer/muff and the reviews on the statement scarf necklace were super positive so I'll be making more of those very soon! These items are not in my Etsy shop yet so if you see something you want let me know and I'll list it for you.

Muff $30
Scarf Necklace $18
Bow Headbands $14
Tutu Ring $10 (made by my SIL)

The next few weeks are going to be super busy here as I prepare for a show in Oshkosh on November 19th and one in Madison on December 3rd! If you are looking for a custom order piece I suggest you order it quickly before I'm booked up! Also, remember I'm having a SALE all month so make sure you check it out!

love my sponsor - wayfaringmagnolia

It's that time again! Time to find out about another one of my lovely blog sponsors. I'm so excited to share this post with you guys because I love vintage and she has some great items in her shop! Find out more about WayfaringMagnolia and then take a minute to show her shop some love!! XOXO

Amanda of WayfaringMagnolia
1. Tell us a little about yourself and why you love vintage!
Well I am an avid history, music and art lover. My first love was music, I spent most of my years singing and playing different instruments both professionally and for fun. From a young age I became very interested in the history of different kinds of music and then stemmed my love of history and everything it encompasses. I remember watching old movies with my mom and just drooling over the costumes they wore and being in musical theater in high school I got to play vintage dress up often. I love vintage because of the history it represents to me, it is the material left overs from people and their stories of times gone by and I love to just think about the eras that the fabric has lived through.

2. What's your favorite thing about selling on Etsy?

I love the flexibility of my own schedule to do what I love, I love the creative spirit that runs through the Etsy community.

1980's Gray and White Pumps
3. Do you have a favorite time period you shop for? If so, what is it and why do you love it?
Hands down 1940s. I think it comes from the stories my grandparents told. Both of my grandfathers served in WWII and my grandmother would tell stories of going to dances with the sailors so I guess it is just a time period in which I've fell in love with the imagery of the culture that my grandparents described.

4. Where would you like to see your shop in 3 years?

I would love for it to be a full time job. Or at least a sustaining hobby in which I don't have to spend lots of time doing promotion. (I am the worst at it!)

1950's Embroidered Sundress
5. Are you on any Etsy teams? If yes, what do you like about them?
I am in quite a few. Many devoted to Vintage sellers and lovers as well as a couple for the Nashville area. I'm not the best about keeping current in the forums but I love to pop in from time to time. The Nashville groups are great because they put together a lot of craft nights and booths at craft fairs for all of us etsy sellers to be a part of.

6. Do you have any funny stories that relate to selling or collecting vintage?

I don't  know if I have many funny stories other than I've always been called grandma by some of my friends. But I guess that is bound to happen in college when you sometimes choose staying in to bake or read instead of another night at the bar.

7. What's your favorite item in your shop right now?
I just sold my favorite one but this is my second fave

Yellow Square Polka Dots Ruffle Dress Coat

Where you can we connect with you?

Working on a new photo style. Thought I'd share a test run with you and see what you think.

The new style I'm going for is a sophisticated rustic look. I hope that comes across in these photos. I'd love to hear your comments.

new look, new name

Today Etsy released the option for shop owners to change their shop names. It's something that I've been waiting for and am so happy the day is finally here! What does this mean for BailyBelle Creations? Well, as of today I've officially dropped the "Creations" and from here on out my shop name is simply BailyBelle!

New Banner
I think this fits better with the direction that I'm going and it's easier to say. Facebook will remain the way it is until they catch up with the name change game. For now you can only change your name if you have under 100 fans, which makes things difficult but such is life.

I hope you guys love the new change.

a must read, trust me!

I can't tell you guys how excited I am to be publishing this post. Being a huge fan of this talented lady it makes me giddy to write this and even more so to announce something very cool at the end! Don't skip ahead, I know you want to but trust me it's worth the wait!

You may have seen her pieces on Etsy or read her fantastic tweets on twitter and if you are like me you may even own a piece of her wonderful jewelry. Sophie, the creator of That Vintage, is an Australian designer who works with Tasmanian Myrtle timber and a laser cutter, the results are breathtaking!

Who is Sophie? She writes...
"My life is simple, sweet and I try to fill it with the things that make my heart sing; fresh air coming through the open windows complimented by the chirping happy birds, cups of delicious tea, good music, kitty cuddles with my blossom, craft nights with friends and op-shop trips to find a treasure or two. I live in Launceston, Tasmania  (the little heart shaped island south of mainland Australia) and it is a truly beautiful place to live"

The back story on That Vintage...
"That Vintage began officially in February of 2008, so it is fast approaching its fourth year. It started off as a little hobby from drawing illustrations of birds and other woodland creatures, playing around with fabric covered buttons and falling in love with the prints, patterns, lace and birds, oh and of course the gorgeous Australian native garden that is outside my studio window - I count myself lucky for that! I never really visualized it would become as much of a "business" as it has, every step has fallen into place naturally - I've always kept it in my mind that it is my creative outlet, hence why I still have a "bread & butter" job in retail - having That Vintage keeps me on the "sane" side of life and I am forever tickled pink by the love it receives!"

Staying Sane...
"The most difficult thing that I have had to do is find "balance" - especially when the hobby turned into a business; finding that perfect balance between bookwork and admin type things and the creative design element. Some days it can get truly overwhelming, even more so when you are doing it all completely on your own! Cups of tea are my saving grace for getting my head around those overwhelming moments."

In 5 years...
"In 5 years time, I would love to see That Vintage progress to having a more stronger presence at mainland Australian market events - being located in Tasmania, it makes it tricky to take stock and market props over to the mainland for events. I love doing markets; I love the one-on-one interaction you have with your customers, from what I can gather (and my experience with meeting other designers) is that the customer gets a buzz off meeting the person behind it all as well!"

"Where I live, our garden is a mix of Native Australian bush with French licks - it is truly beautiful and a true inspiration to see every day - in particular the little feathered friends flitting around the trees outside, I am quite an observer of such things that we would normally take for granted! I am also inspired by intricate lace and crochet work, wrought iron work and vintage floral prints - a little of the old-soul comes out in That Vintage through these aspects."

"Ahhh, the golden question: "How do you stay organised?" - truth is, I spend a lot of my spare time double checking everything, stock levels and supplies. I almost always order in bulk and make a note of the dates that I placed orders - it is now at a point where I can gauge when I am running low on something in particular and whip up a quick order. My suppliers are great and we have great communication; it pays to be loyal to your suppliers if you can, especially if you need something super urgent!"

Working with photographers...
"I have been so lucky with my photographers; they have all been my friends or I have met them through friends - where I live, we are a bit of a tight-knit creative community on many levels - so networking is easy. If you are on the hunt for a photographer, get personal with them - meet them for a coffee and bring along some of your product, your ideas and be open to whatever suggestions they present - at the end of the day, they work the camera and know what they are doing! Have fun with it also; I have enjoyed being on set for the shoots for That Vintage - and don't be afraid to speak up to your photographer in the midst of the shoot, he or she will appreciate your input - they aren't mind readers!"

The best things...
"That Vintage has allowed me to meet some incredible people, warm souls and some pretty die-hard fans (or as I like to call them "lovers") of That Vintage. I have been lucky enough to receive warm & fuzzy emails from customers and shops that I stock to - I have also made some pretty amazing friends through That Vintage... it has given me a whole lot of love in my life really!"

Swoon! Now for something extra juicy...are you ready?
One lucky reader is going to win a pair of her Dainty Wren earrings!! Squee!! I know I'm dying too!
