intimidating but necessary

Ah, the often dreaded bra shopping. I have to admit since becoming a mom it's something I've let slide for way too long. After a recent visit from one of my best friends from High School I decided to do something about it. I just needed something that fit me for goodness sake! After two kids, well you get the picture!

Anyway, I took action yesterday and I was not prepared for what happened. I went to the mall timid and scared out of my mind to shop the bins of Victoria's Secret semi-annual sale. The bras were all separated by size, which if you frequent VS you'll know what I'm talking about, so it made it easy to grab different ones to try on. I grabbed a bunch and quietly sneaked back to the dressing room in hopes that no one would see me and ask the dreaded, "Would you like a fitting today?" or the even more terrifying, "I can take a peak when you have those on to see if they fit properly." Um, what?!

I made it in safely and quickly tried a few on. What in the world? These things don't fit at all!! Crap! I put my top back on and made my way back to the bins. This time grabbing anything that I didn't already try.

Back in the fitting rooms I found that they didn't fit either and I'd have to muster up the courage to get "fitted". Oh my god my worst nightmare!! I took a deep breath, opened the door and asked the sweet looking girl for HELP!!!

Guess what, it wasn't that bad! The fitting was not as awkward as my visions had foretold and she was able to help me find the right size! Woot! Although, she did ask to see them on me and I kindly turned her down. lol Who knew it was that easy?!

So I left the store with two new bras and a new confidence! Thank goodness! The moral of the story here is to let go of your fears and be bold in 2012. I know that for most of you bra shopping isn't such a big deal but it's been YEARS for me so I'm glad to have it over with!

Now I'm off to search for more since I now know what I'm doing...heck I may even buy something sexy!

  1. lol! Love this post! I was feeling just like you after my son was born and I was through breastfeeding. I wasn't even brave enough to go to Victoria's Secret or La Senza - I made sure I went to an old fashioned department store and found the oldest, most matronly woman I could find on the lingerie floor to "do the deed".

Yeah, totally shocked to discover that she didn't need to "see them" and amazed that she got them hiked up higher than they ever were before. That woman was, and still is, my hero!

It's amazing how a well-fitting bra can make you feel. Kudos!!!!
